A Little Bit of a Hold Up...
5 months ago – Mon, Oct 27, 2025 at 05:04:09 PM

Well, after struggling to get the black inks of the character sheets to be identical and (the bigger issue) print correctly on a home printer, I have finally got the PDF toward its final state (just another editing pass and some tests on various printers to make sure the quality is there). All art is in, and all characters have been created! The pledge manager and pre-order store should open within a few days.

To recap, with some bonus support from others and due to the success of the campaign, we are going ahead and doing that bonus character, "The Robot" in all 11 levels. Because early backers were supposed to get a version of The Robot character for free, I don't want them to feel unappreciated, so I commissioned another mutant character (given that they most represent the theme of the game), and they will get that character at levels 0-3. If you didn't make it into the campaign within the first 48 hours but want that character, I do have it as a couple-buck add-on in the pledge manager.

There will be a bit of a hold up for folks wanting a printed version of this product. The only form I could manage that made economic sense was to have it printed as a softbound book from DrivethruRPG.com. The way this will work is that, for $2 you can add-on a print version of the book. However, what you really get is a coupon code to buy it at production cost from DriveThru (right now it is at about $6) and have them ship it to you at your expense). This is not ideal, but numbers did not allow for much else. To sweeten this deal, I will also send the backers who buy a physical copy a file with images of each character class that they can then use them privately for VTT tokens or what have you (just not commercial, public, or for-profit endeavors). I hope that makes the up-charge worth it. The other drawback to this approach is, that these books will require a few weeks of back-and-forth with me and Drivethru until I get a printer's proof and can OK it. I would guess they will not make it to your homes until December. In the meantime, you should have all PDFs within a week or two.

Thanks for your support!

The Season for Mutants Approaches!
6 months ago – Wed, Oct 15, 2025 at 05:28:22 PM

Thank you!  Thank all of you who backed "A Mutant for All Seasons." This project was truly an act of self-indulgence. Born from my desire to have some nice pre-gens to pass out at conventions, and not have to generate new and wildly different pre-gens from one game to the next, independent of the level of adventure I'm running. I thought this set would be massively useful in my play-tests and con games and hoped others would see the value and fun in having them - thank God the world is full of weirdos like me!

Anyhow, the project funding is done, and work is going well on it. It should be finished up next week and then it's down to just getting it through editing and doing the proof-process through DriveThruRPG so that those of you that want a psychical product can have it! I would guess that the fulfillment side of things (starting with your surveys) will begin during the last week of October, and delivery of the PDF will follow within a week of that.

As a reminder, here is what you are getting...
  • Illustrated character sheets (88 different, complete sheets with 5 different illustrations per character that change as the PC changes levels) for levels 0 through 10 for all the following genotypes:
    1. Sentinels
    2. Rovers
    3. Healers
    4. Shamans
    5. Mutants
    6. Manimals
    7. Plantiets
    8. and, as an added bonus, C. Aaron Kreader's Robots!
  • A blank character sheet (with the post-apocalyptic stylings of the other sheets).
  • 6 pages of randomizing gear charts (great for use as "treasure tables" across the ruined Earth).
  • A chart simulating the losses and gains of adventuring that you can use to boost your own PCs up in experience points for higher-level play.
  • 2 high-level programs for the Patron AI Hale-E (complimenting the high-level versions of the Shaman).

Additionally, because everyone is going to be getting the special Robot character, those that backed in the first 48 hours will now get a special secondary Mutant character (see Michael Greer's sketch below), stat-ed out in both 1st and 2nd level .

That's about 100 pages of material, folks!  I really hope you'll love it as much as I have been loving it throughout its development.

Once again, you all made this possible, and I am forever indebted to your kindness. Have a great couple weeks of gaming until I reach out to you next. Also, if you are at GameHole this weekend, please hunt me down so I can thank you in person!

Sincerely,

Entering the Final Week!
6 months ago – Wed, Oct 08, 2025 at 07:28:14 PM

"A Mutant for All Seasons" is entering its final week on Backerkit!

If you haven't filled out the poll to help select the bonus pre-gen characters, please do. Despite the looks of things, I think we will hit at least 2 of the stretch goals before the project ends, and I really want to know what bonus character class people are most excited about.

I sort of knew this project might be a bit of a sleeper, but folks, don't worry, your $15 dollars is going to be well spent! These illustrations by Michael Greer are just the sort of campy, fun thing that helps people fall in LOVE with the MCC experience.
  • You get 35 of those illustrations spread across 77 pregenerated character sheets (showing off all 11 levels of play for each class).
  • You get a blank character sheet with all its post-apocalyptic pizzazz.
  • You get 6 charts for randomizing gear that also make lovely resources to roll on when you want some quick and interesting "treasure" for your seekers to find.
  • You get a chart that you can roll on to artificially advance characters up levels via "simulated adventures." This is a nice way to take characters your group has played before and buff them up to a level needed for a particular adventure.
  • You get 2 new, high-level wetware programs for the Patron Hale-E

Hopefully, by the campaign's end we will have a bunch more to add to this list through stretch goals. I have been working out a way to do a print version of this product (on the backside of things, when surveys arrive for fulfillment), and I think that can be done economically using DrivethruRPG. Please let fellow players know about this opportunity, and again -don't forget to vote for the bonus content!

Back It HERE

Thanks for Bringing this Project to Life!

I am always amazed by the generosity of you backers and the opportunities you give me and other creators to make our wild visions a reality! Michael Greer (the character artist) and I have had a blast making these crazy-fun characters for this project. I was not sure this would even fund (it's the sort of thing I desperately wanted as a con-going GM, but I wasn't sure many others had that desire). Now, not only is it funded, but I have a lot of hope we will see one or more extra characters pop up in the final project through stretch goals.

When we get a bit closer, I will open the polls, and we can vote to see where your guys' interests lie for the bonus characters. That goal unlocks at $2000. I will also be using any money brought in via the $5 add-on to try and add more art to this project. I'm not sure what that will look like right now. It may be illustrations in some of the open space on the pages of equipment charts, etc. I may just spring for some random "weirdo" characters (like a Post-Apocalyptic Wizard built with DCC), or we may polish up some of the sheet's background elements with additional art to make them a little better.

For those of you that got in this campaign within the first 48 hrs, you get a free Level-2 Robot based on C. Aaron Kreader's Robot class in his adventure, "Die, Robot!" He sent in the art for this character, and I'm giving you a preview below. If you missed this bonus, I will put this up as an add-on (for just a few bucks) during fullfillment. Aaron has also agreed to be on hand if the Robot class is chosen for the stretch goal (to do the other illustrations)!  If that becomes the case, I would commission a new special character for the 48 hr backers, so that they still get a special thanks.

Again, thanks for all you've done to get the word out and all your investment in this project!
